Today morning, as I stood at the busstop waiting for my Infy bus, there was a huge rush at the school opposite our busstop. Parents, children and teachers everywhere. Children saying 'bye-bye', kissing their parents and boarding the bus with their colorful lunch boxes. For once, their back wasn't burdened. It was excursion time for them. As I stood and watched them, I got nostalgic.
Till first few standards (till 5th Std I suppose), the standard place for our excursion was our very own Cubbon Park and Lalbagh. The same toy train, boat ride, and other adventures - merry-go-round, giant wheel, horse rides, etc.
6th and 7th we advanced - went to science museum, planetarium and temples in and around Bangalore .
8th Standard was our first out of Bangalore trip. Infact, out of state trip. We had been to Tiruvannamalai and Ramanashri Ashram. But this was again a 1 day trip. Our school was against night halts :(
9th Standard - they had planned to take us to Mandya. Ofcourse, we revolted against it and so the trip got cancelled. Only girls went for the trip and boys stayed back in classroom torturing a single teacher through out the day. Poor chap.
10th Standard - it was the last year in school. We were the senior most in the school and we had no intention to boycott the trip again. So agreed to abide by them. And of all the places, they took us to Melukote for day trip. We were very much angered by this, but couldn't help. Also the food was yuck. All this was enough to wage a war against our school authorities, and in the process, our bus became the victim. I dont want to get into the details here, but all I say is the condition of the bus when we returned was not the same when we started.
The bus. Oh the bus! My bus had arrived and people were getting into it. I was the last one to get in, although I was the first to arrive at my stop. The excursion reminisces were awesome!
